Castellamare Ghosts

Of all the reputed hauntings in Swansea and Gower, none appear in a less likely location for a ghost than the Castellamare restaurant. Castellamare is a thoroughly modern-looking building perched high on a headland overlooking one of Gower's most beautiful beaches -Bracelet Bay—and offers fine views of the Mumbles Islets and Mumbles Lighthouse. However, despite its welcoming charm, the restaurant has been the scene of some heart-stopping paranormal activity.

Castellamare's notoriety as being haunted has attracted both the attention of the local press and ghost investigators. On one occasion, when the restaurant had closed for the evening and its manager was locking up for the night, she heard a scream issuing from the men's toilet. Believing that a customer had been inadvertently locked in the facilities, she went to the toilets but found the room empty. On another occasion, the presumed ghost of a woman was seen entering the toilet facilities (presumed as the woman was not seen leaving the toilets. Indeed, she was never seen again).

An earlier manager of the restaurant had an even more direct contact with the supernatural on the premises when something unseen struck a blow to her face, strongly suggesting that it is a poltergeist and not a ghost at work at the
restaurant. The indication is furthered by the incident when a glass was seen flying through the air by its own volition.
