So taken with the countryside she had grown up amongst, local writer Iris Gower actually took her name from her beloved peninsula. When first choosing a name to author her historical romances, all set within Swansea and Gower, several alternatives sprang to mind. For a short while she flirted with the names Iris Caswell, Iris Singleton and Iris Langland before settling with her final surname.
Born in 1939, Iris now lives in the Gower seaside village of Mumbles and has four grown up children, though sadly her husband of 48 years, Tudor Davies, passed away on April 15th 2002 after suffering a major stroke.
Iris tours nationally with her work and continues to find inspiration in the people and landscapes of the Gower Peninsula. She is the proud recipient of an Honorary Fellowship at the University of Wales, Swansea and has also recently gained an M.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Cardiff.
